The answer is YES. Never before have musicians had such opportunities that not so long ago would have been completely out of reach for the most. A great example not so long ago to distribute a record yourself would have been an impossible feat especially on a global scale but in 2018 you can distribute your own record globally, independently and successfully and it’s not expensive. Great global distributors like Tunecore can distributed a single globally on iTunes, Amazon and all the main download sites for under £20 and under £30 for an album. They also collect royalties for your monetised content on Youtube and record sales so they not only distribute for you but also collect your royalties that’s cool.
Never has there been a better time for the musician. We can produce studio records without having to go into an insanely expensive recording studio The playing field is a greater space, more so than ever before and we all get a ticket to play unlike not so long ago where making and distributing a record were truly for a select lucky few. So yes the doors for business are open and if you have the talent, desire & know how you can break through and you don’t need to sign your life away on a bad indie deal or major for that fact.
If you make great records they should be heard! and can in 2018. Great music is timeless and with the likes of Youtube another fantastic global platform when a video goes live it’s forever immortalised.. online forever and available for the whole world to see. As phones, cameras and software continue to improve our video editing and shooting capabilities will continue to improve. We are already making great HD Videos without the major label budgets and with a simple upload your video is live for the whole world to see. So let’s be honest these are great times to be a musician and our possibilities are endless and forever improving. Our art can be seen and heard all around the world and that my friends is really cool!
2018 for the musician is a great year a future vintage let’s say:) We can do so much and the great news is our possibilities will forever evolve, improve and so will our perception of music exciting times lay ahead for the music maker & listener and that’s really cool.
