Firstly, we never like giving bad news, but we had a data breach recently and some of our client’s basic contact details including telephone numbers and e-mail addresses were potentially exposed for a brief period of time, so please be aware of phone calls from people purporting to be from music companies you most probably have never heard of and ask yourself, how did they get your telephone number or your e-mail address? We understand that this can be extremely frustrating and assure you that we have taken every measure to prevent this from happening again. We’d also like to reassure you that no financial information was exposed, only artist names, telephone numbers and e-mail addresses.
Leading on from this, here’s our guide to the do’s and don’ts of music promotion…
Before doing any work with a music promotion company, check out their online reviews including Trustpilot and Google Reviews. If a company is offering to do the impossible, it most probably is, and you must ask yourself “What are their credentials?”.
If a promotion company is offering to do incredible things with your social media, check out their Instagram, Facebook and Twitter first. If they are offering to do incredible things for you but only have 5 followers themselves, “alarm bells should start ringing!”. It is also great to ask for testimonials to hear other people’s experiences with them and to also make sure they have a registered address on their site. The important thing is to do your research.
We have good news though, there are great companies out there that really want and can help artists, so our best tip is to focus on your music first and make it great as the competition is fierce, and make sure when it comes to your music promotion, whether it be Radio, TV, Press, Spotify, YouTube or indeed distribution and chart registration, that you choose a professional company with a great track record that you have researched properly and that you know will deliver on their promises.
Let’s hope 2021 will be great!!! Creativity flowing and great things happening including some outstanding new music.
Happy Easter!
